SCHOOL OF YAMAY, DONGOBESH

The school was handed over to the state on 30 June 2007.

The families in the villages are themselves responsible for building "their own primary school", which the state then takes over the operation of and appoints teachers and pays teachers' salaries and course literature. Due to the drought that has been raging for several years in and around the community of Dongobesh, the local authorities have asked us, afrika.ax, for help in building the new primary school in Yamay, Dongobesh for 630 children in grades 1-7. Yamay is a village just outside Dongobesh.

The authorities have seen that we have already built a nice preschool in the city with about 100 students, where parents want to send their children. There are already two primary schools in Dongobesh, but there are not enough places for all the children who are going to start school. Many children have to wait until they are 8-9 years old before starting school and this means that many stay at home.
